Weddings · Melbourne CBD
We are based in Beaconsfield, but city weddings are a big part of what we do. Melbourne CBD has some of the most photogenic backdrops in the country, from street art laneways to grand gardens, and they look just as good on film as in photos.
Behind the cameras are Jay and Yesha. We started J Y Productions in 2018 and work from Beaconsfield in South-East Melbourne, in English, Hindi and Gujarati. For a feel of our style, scroll @j.y_productions or watch a highlight film on our YouTube channel.
City weddings move quickly. Venues are close together, but traffic, parking and crowds can eat into your portrait time. We plan routes and timing with you in advance, so you get the most out of every stop.
We mix landmark portraits with candid moments: walking through a laneway, laughing at a tram stop, the quiet before the reception.
What to expect for a city wedding:
The city is also a favourite for pre-wedding sessions. See our Melbourne CBD pre-wedding guide.
Photography on its own suits couples who mostly want an album and a gallery. Adding film means you also get a 3 to 4 minute highlight film, delivered within 8 weeks, that captures the sound and movement of the day. A few of our wedding films are on our YouTube channel.
City backdrops with movement, like trams and crowds, bring real energy to a highlight film.
Send us your date, your venues and the functions you would like covered, and we will check availability for Melbourne CBD. Use the enquiry form, call +61 435 222 666 or email Hello@jyproductions.com.au. We aim to reply within 24 to 48 hours.
Securing your date: a 10% retainer, once we have talked through the plan.
Timing: sneak peek in 2 days, gallery in 14 days, highlight film in 8 weeks.
Included: careful editing on every photo and drone coverage where the venue allows.
Most couples lock in their photographer 9 to 12 months out. Popular wedding months go quickly, and if you are planning a haldi, mehndi and sangeet before the ceremony, every one of those dates needs to be available.
A rough running order is enough to start. We refine it together closer to the day.
City venues book out early, so line up your photographer and videographer soon after your venue.
Hosier Lane, the street art laneway opposite Federation Square. The art changes constantly, so no two visits look the same.
Federation Square and Flinders Street Station, right across from each other at Flinders and Swanston Streets.
Treasury Gardens and Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne, with tree-lined paths and lawns close to Spring Street.
Carlton Gardens and the Royal Exhibition Building, a World Heritage listed site on the city’s northern edge.
These are well-known public places couples consider; we are not claiming past shoots at any of them. If you are considering the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, note that a permit is required for wedding photography there.
Some places, like the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, require one. We check each stop with you.
Usually two or three close together. We plan a realistic route with you.
