Pre-wedding · Melbourne CBD
Melbourne CBD is made for pre-wedding photos. Street art laneways, a famous station facade, leafy gardens and a World Heritage building are all within walking distance of each other. We are based in Beaconsfield and travel into the city for sessions like this all the time.
Behind J Y Productions are Jay and Yesha, a married couple who founded the business in 2018. We work in English, Hindi and Gujarati, and our newest couple sessions go up on @j.y_productions.
A city session can feel like a date: coffee, a walk through the laneways, a stop in the gardens as the light softens. We plan a route so the walking is easy and every stop looks different.
City spots can be busy, so we choose times of day that give you a bit of space, and we work quickly at the most popular landmarks.
What a city session looks like:

Start with what you love. If you picture soft light through trees, choose a park or garden. If you want water and reflections, a lake at sunset. If you want something urban and bold, a city laneway or plaza.
In the city, bold colour pops against street art, while classic outfits suit the gardens and heritage buildings.
Outfits matter as much as location. Choose clothes you feel wonderful in, and bring a second look if you would like variety. We are happy to talk colours and styling before the day.
The session starts slowly. A short walk, a few simple poses, a little teasing to break the ice. Once you relax, we move to the best light and the most interesting corners we have picked out around Melbourne CBD. We keep an eye on hair, dupattas and collars so you do not have to, and we always leave time at the end for one last golden frame.
Message us with your location ideas and a few dates that work. We come back within 24 to 48 hours. You can enquire online, call +61 435 222 666 or email Hello@jyproductions.com.au.
How booking works: enquire, talk it through with us, pay a 10% retainer, and the date is yours.
Timing: sneak peek within 2 days, full gallery within 14 days.
Most couples do their pre-wedding session a few months before the wedding, so the photos are ready for invitations, a welcome sign or a slideshow at the reception. Earlier is fine too, especially if you want a particular season.
Weekday mornings are the quietest time in the laneways, if your schedules allow.
Hosier Lane, Melbourne’s best-known street art laneway, opposite Federation Square. The art changes all the time, so your backdrop will be one of a kind.
Federation Square and Flinders Street Station, across the road from each other, with the station’s famous facade and clocks.
Treasury Gardens or Fitzroy Gardens, a short walk east, for tree-lined paths and a softer, romantic feel.
Carlton Gardens, home to the World Heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building, a grand backdrop for formal outfits.
These are well-known public places; we are not claiming past shoots at any of them. Some city places have rules for professional photography. The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne needs a permit for wedding photography, and at State Library Victoria, photography in the La Trobe Reading Room is for personal, non-commercial use only.
Photography in the La Trobe Reading Room is for personal, non-commercial use, so it is not a place for a professional session without permission.
Usually three or four close together, without rushing.
A sneak peek within 2 days and the full gallery within 14 days.
Yes. Photo and film are both available for pre-wedding sessions.
Of course. Many couples do, which is a good reason to shoot a few months before the wedding.
