Pre-wedding · Beaconsfield
Beaconsfield sits right at the foot of the hills, and that is a gift for pre-wedding photos. Within a short drive of our home base you have lakes, fern gullies, historic gardens and reservoir lookouts, each with a completely different feel.
We are Jay and Yesha, the husband-and-wife team behind J Y Productions. We started the business in 2018, we work from Beaconsfield in South-East Melbourne, and we speak English, Hindi and Gujarati. Recent couple sessions are on our Instagram, @j.y_productions.
Because we are based here, we know how the light falls in these spots at different times of year. Tall trees soften harsh sun, water gives you reflections, and lookouts give you big skies at golden hour.
We plan the session with you so it feels like a relaxed date, not a photo shoot. Walk, talk, laugh, and let us catch the moments in between.
What a session near Beaconsfield looks like:
If you are getting married locally, see our Beaconsfield wedding photography guide. Many couples book both together.
Start with what you love. If you picture soft light through trees, choose a park or garden. If you want water and reflections, a lake at sunset. If you want something urban and bold, a city laneway or plaza.
Near Beaconsfield, the hills give you lush green and old trees, while the reservoir gives you open water and wide views.
Outfits matter as much as location. Choose clothes you feel wonderful in, and bring a second look if you would like variety. We are happy to talk colours and styling before the day.
We meet you at the first spot in Beaconsfield, have a quick chat about the plan and start with a few easy frames so you can warm up. After ten minutes or so most couples stop thinking about the camera. We give light direction, like where to stand and which way to face the light, then step back and let you talk, laugh and walk together. If you are changing outfits, we plan a sensible spot for it in advance.

Most couples do their pre-wedding session a few months before the wedding, so the photos are ready for invitations, a welcome sign or a slideshow at the reception. Earlier is fine too, especially if you want a particular season.
If you want autumn colour in the hills gardens, book early. Those weeks are popular.
Emerald Lake Park in Emerald has walking trails around the lakes, fern gullies and big ornamental trees. Puffing Billy stops at its Lakeside station, which can add a playful moment if timings line up. It is a popular park, so we allow extra time for parking on busy days.
Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens in Sherbrooke is a historic garden with a lake. It is generally open 10am to 5pm, and the lower islands close seasonally, so we check before planning.
Cardinia Reservoir Park has lookouts across Melbourne’s second-largest reservoir and mobs of eastern grey kangaroos. Gates open dawn to dusk, and drones need a permit.
These are public places couples often consider; we are not claiming past shoots at any of them.
It is generally open 10am to 5pm, so it suits daytime sessions. For sunset, the reservoir or Emerald Lake Park can work better.
Drones need a permit there, so we plan ground-level shots unless a permit is arranged.
Of course. Many couples do, which is a good reason to shoot a few months before the wedding.
Yes. Photo and film are both available for pre-wedding sessions.
Not at all. Most couples feel that way at first. We guide you gently, and within a few minutes you forget we are there.
