Our studio is about seven minutes from Berwick Village, which makes us one of the closest newborn photographers to Casey Hospital. Whether you’d rather come to us or have us come to you, sessions are $550 in the studio or $650 in your home, and every one includes 20–30 fully edited photographs and a 30-second highlight film.
We’re Jay and Yesha. We’ve been photographing families since 2015 and running JY Productions since 2022, and we now have 23+ Google reviews, all five stars.

Newborn sessions in Berwick
Berwick families book us fast, and it’s usually for one reason: we’re already here. When your baby arrives four days early and they often do, we’re not rearranging a drive from across Melbourne to make it happen. We’re seven minutes down the road, which means the gap between “the baby’s here” and “the photographer’s at the door” is about as short as it gets in the south-east.
That proximity changes more than just logistics. It means we can hold a flexible window around your due date rather than locking you into a single day, and if your baby comes early or late, we can usually shift the session by a day or two without it becoming a problem for either of us. For a lot of Berwick families, especially those delivering at Casey Hospital just up the road, that flexibility is the actual reason they book with us over a photographer further out.
What that closeness means in practice for your session:
- We can shift your session by a day or two around your baby’s actual arrival, not a date fixed months in advance
- Seven minutes from Casey Hospital, so an in-home session in the week you’re discharged is genuinely easy to arrange
- No travel charge for Berwick, in-home sessions are a flat $650
- Sessions run two to three hours because feeds and nappy changes are built into the plan, not squeezed around it
- Parent and sibling photos are included as standard, never charged as an add-on
- You’ll have a sneak peek within 2 days, while you’re still in the newborn fog and want to see something straight away
- The room is heated well above normal, because warm babies settle and sleep, and cold ones don’t

Studio session or in your home?
Berwick is close enough to our Beaconsfield studio that either option works easily, so this really comes down to what suits your session rather than what's convenient.
| Studio - $550 | Your home - $650 | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Maternity, milestones, cake smash | Newborns in the first fortnight |
| Lighting | Fully controlled, consistent | Whatever your windows give us |
| Props and backdrops | Everything already set up | We bring a full selection with us |
| Mess | Ours to clean up | Cake smashes at home get messy |
| With a six-day-old | A short seven-minute drive, very doable | No car seat, no packing, no rush |
Our honest recommendation: the studio for maternity and cake smash, home for newborn. Cake smashes in particular are worth doing at our place — buttercream tends to end up further from the baby than anyone expects, and in the studio that's our problem to clean up, not your carpet.

When to book
Maternity: 28 to 34 weeks is the sweet spot. The bump is clearly there and you’re usually still moving comfortably. If you’re expecting twins, or you’ve been told you may deliver early, aim for 26 to 30 weeks instead.
Newborn: the first 5 to 14 days. Babies this young still curl naturally into those tucked-up, sleepy shapes and settle through most of the session. Book at 20 to 30 weeks pregnant, we hold a flexible window around your due date rather than a fixed day, and you message us once your baby arrives so we can confirm the exact date inside that window.
Being seven minutes from Berwick helps here more than it might sound. Babies rarely arrive when anyone plans for them to, and being this close means we can usually move your session by a day or two either way without any drama, rather than trying to slot you into a diary built around travel time.
Cake smash: 11 to 12 months, ideally shot a couple of weeks before the actual birthday so your images are back and ready in time for the party itself.
Around Berwick
Wilson Botanic Park is the obvious choice and it earns it. The lake, the hill lookout and the mature tree cover give you three genuinely different backdrops inside one loop, so we rarely need to drive anywhere else for an outdoor Berwick session. Late afternoon is the best time to go, the western light comes in low through the trees along the lake edge and gives everything a warm, soft glow rather than the harsher overhead light you get around midday. Commercial photography in the park does require a City of Casey permit, which we arrange on your behalf, so all you need to do is tell us the date you’d like and we’ll take care of the paperwork.
The Old Cheese Factory on Homestead Road is a quieter alternative when you want something with more texture behind you than green lawn. The bluestone walls and open grounds suit maternity sessions especially well, giving the images a slightly more editorial, structured feel compared with a park setting.
Akoonah Park is more open and considerably less busy than Wilson Botanic, with easy parking right near the entrance. It’s a good pick for family sessions that include older kids, since there’s genuine room for them to run between frames rather than being asked to stand still the whole time.
For families who’d rather walk than pose, the High Street end of Berwick Village works nicely for a relaxed, lifestyle-style session; coffee in hand, walking rather than standing for photos, which tends to produce more natural, less stiff results, particularly for maternity sessions with partners who aren’t keen on formal posing.
Why families book us
- Seven minutes away. We’re not a photographer driving in from across Melbourne with a hard finish time, we’re local, and it shows in how flexible we can be with timing.
- A team of two. Jay and Yesha shoot together on every session. One of us watches the light and the frame while the other keeps a toddler laughing or helps a mum find a pose that actually feels comfortable rather than held.
- A film in every session. Every maternity and newborn booking includes a 30-second highlight video at no extra cost. Most Melbourne newborn photographers hand you a gallery of photos and stop there, we hand you a gallery and something you can genuinely send to family who couldn’t be there.
- Since 2015. We’ve been photographing families for over ten years, and we currently sit at 23+ Google reviews, every one of them five stars.
- English, Hindi and Gujarati. Useful when extended family is part of the session, or when a baby shower or godh bharai has its own running order to follow.
- Pricing on the page. No “enquire for a quote” and no surprises. You know exactly what your session costs before you ever message us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge for travel to Berwick?
No. In-home sessions are $650 anywhere in Melbourne, and Berwick is practically next door to our Beaconsfield studio at only seven minutes away, so there’s never a travel surcharge for families booking with us here.
Do we need a permit for Wilson Botanic Park?
Commercial photography inside the park does require a City of Casey permit. We handle the entire application on your behalf, all we need is about a week’s notice for any outdoor booking there, and we’ll take care of the rest so you don’t have to deal with any paperwork yourself.
How many photos will we get, and how quickly?
20 to 30 fully edited images plus your 30-second highlight film. You’ll get a sneak peek within 2 days of your session, with the complete gallery following within 14 days.
How long does a session actually take?
Two to three hours for newborn sessions, because feeds, nappy changes and settling time are built into that window rather than treated as an interruption to it. Maternity and cake smash sessions are generally shorter, usually running one to two hours depending on the location and how many people are involved.
What happens if our baby won’t settle during the session?
That’s completely normal, and it’s exactly why we allow two to three hours rather than rushing through in one. Nobody is watching a clock during your session, and we’ve never had a baby we couldn’t eventually work with.
Can grandparents and older kids come along?
Yes, and we’d genuinely encourage it. Just let us know who’s coming when you book so we can plan the groupings in advance, that way nobody ends up standing around waiting while we figure out the shot on the spot.
