Newborn & Family Photographer in Berwick

Berwick is about 10 minutes from our Beaconsfield studio. When your baby arrives a few days early, and they often do, that short distance makes everything easier. We are not rearranging a drive across Melbourne; we are just down the road.

J Y Productions is Jay and Yesha, a married couple who started the business in 2018. Between us we speak English, Hindi and Gujarati, which helps when grandparents come to meet the baby. Our newest newborn work is on Instagram at @j.y_productions_motherhood.

Newborn sessions in Berwick

Home sessions are popular with Berwick parents, and it is easy to see why. No car seat, no packing, no timing feeds around a drive. We come to you, find the best window light in the house and set up somewhere quiet. Older siblings stay in their own space with their own toys, which usually means happier little ones.

If you would prefer to come out, the studio is close by. Either way, the closeness means we can hold a flexible window around your due date and shift the session by a day or two if your baby has other plans.

What that closeness means for your session:

  • We can usually move your session by a day or two around your baby’s actual arrival.
  • A home session in the week you get home from hospital is genuinely easy to arrange.
  • We hold a flexible window around your due date rather than a single fixed day.
  • We keep the room warm and quiet, because warm babies settle and sleep.
  • Sessions run around 2 to 3 hours because feeds, nappy changes and settling are built into the plan, not squeezed around it.
  • Nothing is forced. Your baby sets the pace and we work around them.

Family photos in Berwick

For family photos with older children, Berwick has lovely outdoor spaces. We keep things playful: games, silly noises and a race or two across the lawn bring out real smiles far better than asking everyone to say cheese.

Why families choose our family sessions

  • A playful approach that brings out real laughter.
  • Short, simple group shots so nobody gets restless.
  • Room for pets if they are part of the family.
  • Gentle guidance for parents who feel awkward on camera.

Studio session or in your home?

Berwick is close enough to Beaconsfield that either option works easily, so it really comes down to what suits your family. Our honest recommendation: home for newborns if you would rather not move the baby, and the studio if you like a simple, timeless look.

There is no need to clean the whole house for a home session. We usually only need one or two rooms.

When to book

We photograph newborns in their first 5 to 14 days, while they are still sleepy and curled up. The best time to contact us is at around 20 to 30 weeks, so we can keep a flexible window open around your due date rather than guessing at a single day.

Planning ahead for the first year? Milestone portraits suit 6 to 10 months, and a cake smash suits 11 to 12 months.

For Berwick families, being this close means we rarely have to squeeze you into a gap built around travel time.

Around Berwick

Wilson Botanic Park has lakes, lawns and a playground, which can help keep kids happy between photos. Note the park’s own conditions of entry, such as no bikes or scooters.

Sweeney Reserve sits at the Berwick end of the Hallam Valley Trail, with playgrounds, wetlands and open grass for a more casual feel.

We mention these as nearby ideas only. We are not claiming past shoots at either.

Why families book us

  • Photos and film. Your gallery comes with a 30-second film from the same session.
  • Quick turnaround. A sneak peek within 2 days and your full gallery within 14 days.
  • Easy access. The Beaconsfield studio is accessible for people with physical disabilities, handy when grandparents visit.
  • A team of two. Jay and Yesha work together. One of us looks after the camera and the light while the other helps settle the baby or keeps a toddler laughing.
  • Three languages. We speak English, Hindi and Gujarati, so the whole family can join the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Can we do newborn photos at home and family photos in a park later?

Yes. Many families do a newborn session first, then an outdoor family session as the baby grows.

What should the room look like for a home session?

Open the curtains, turn off overhead lights and clear a little space near the brightest window. We handle the rest.

Do you photograph cake smashes and milestones?

Yes. Milestone portraits suit 6 to 10 months and cake smash sessions suit 11 to 12 months.

How many photos will we get?

20 to 30 edited photos plus a 30-second film. A sneak peek arrives within 2 days and the full gallery within 14 days.

Do we need a big house for a home session?

No. We need one spot with decent window light and a bit of floor or bed space.
