Maternity Photographer in Dandenong

Dandenong is one of the most multicultural parts of Melbourne, and many families here have parents, in-laws and cousins close by. A maternity session is often a family affair, and we love that. Speaking English, Hindi and Gujarati makes it easy for everyone to feel included.

J Y Productions is the two of us, Jay and Yesha. We founded the business in 2018 and have been photographing and filming families ever since, and we are happy to chat in English, Hindi or Gujarati, whichever feels easiest for your family. Maternity sessions in Dandenong

Plenty of Dandenong mums want a mix of modern and traditional looks: a simple dress for a few portraits, then a saree or lehenga for frames with family. We plan the order so that outfit changes are quick and you are not standing around in between.

If grandparents are joining, we photograph them early while everyone is fresh, then give you time on your own with your partner. Nothing is rushed, and we explain each pose in whichever language works best.

What a Dandenong session usually includes:

  • Time for traditional outfits and family groups if you would like them.
  • Shade from mature trees in the local parks, which is welcome on warm afternoons.
  • You see a sneak peek within 2 days and the full gallery within 14 days.
  • We plan your session for 34 to 36 weeks, when the bump is at its fullest and most mums still feel comfortable moving around.
  • We stop whenever you need to. Pregnancy is tiring, and the session moves at your pace.
  • Partners and older siblings are welcome in the frame, and we always save time for a few photos of everyone together.

From maternity to newborn in Dandenong

We also photograph newborns at home in Dandenong or at our Beaconsfield studio. Our newborn and family guide for Dandenong covers how those sessions run.

Park, home or studio?

For big family groups, a park gives everyone room to spread out. For a more intimate set of portraits, home or the studio is calmer and more private.

Our honest suggestion is to choose the setting that suits who is coming. A session with five relatives looks and feels different from one with just the two of you.

Why mums choose our maternity sessions

  • A calm pace with breaks whenever you need them.
  • Outfit and colour advice ahead of the day.
  • Family frames included alongside your solo portraits.
  • Photos and a short film from the same session.

Booking and delivery

Booking: after a quick chat about your plans, a 10% retainer holds your date.

What you receive: 20 to 30 edited photos and a 30-second film from your session.

Delivery: a sneak peek within 2 days and the full gallery within 14 days.

When to book

Most mums book their maternity session for somewhere between 34 and 36 weeks. Earlier than that and the bump can be shy; later and getting up from the grass gets harder. We suggest messaging us once you know your due date, so a cooler-month date in that window is still open.

Thinking about newborn photos as well? Babies are best photographed in their first 5 to 14 days, so we ask families to reach out at about 20 to 30 weeks. That way we can keep a flexible window open around your due date.

Family schedules can be the trickiest part, so it helps to give us a couple of possible dates in your 34 to 36 week window.

Around Dandenong

Dandenong Park on Lonsdale Street is a district park of more than 17 hectares, with Dandenong Creek running through it. The mature trees give shade and soft, dappled light.

Tirhatuan Park in Dandenong North has two lakes, wetlands and boardwalks, plus picnic areas if the family would like to make an afternoon of it.

We suggest these as nearby places families often consider, not as places we claim to have shot.

Why families book us

  • English, Hindi and Gujarati. Useful when parents or in-laws join the session, or when a godh bharai is coming up and the family wants to plan around it.
  • Photo and film together. A 30-second film comes with every maternity session, so you have something that moves as well as your gallery.
  • A team of two. Jay and Yesha work together. One of us watches the light and the frame while the other keeps the mood easy and helps you settle into poses that feel natural rather than held.
  • In business since 2018. J Y Productions has been our full focus since 2018, and bump-to-baby sessions are a big part of what we do.
  • No long wait. Your sneak peek arrives within 2 days and the full gallery within 14 days.

Frequently asked questions

Can grandparents join the session?

Yes. We are happy to include extended family, and we speak English, Hindi and Gujarati, so everyone can follow along.

Can I change into traditional clothes during the session?

Yes. Tell us what you plan to wear and we will build time for changes into the session.

Can we book maternity and newborn sessions together?

Yes. Many families book both at once, and it means we can hold a newborn window around your due date early. See the newborn and family page for how newborn sessions work.

Do you photograph baby showers too?

Yes. We photograph and film baby showers and gender reveals as well, so if a godh bharai or shower is on the calendar, ask us about covering it.

What should I wear?

Something that shows the shape of your bump. Fitted dresses, flowing gowns and soft knits all work, and a saree or lehenga photographs beautifully if you want a traditional look. Bring two outfits if you like, and send us photos beforehand if you are unsure.
